Meet Brittany

Making Newton Home
My husband Phil and I moved to Newton during the COVID-19 pandemic to be closer to Phil’s family in the Boston area. Like so many families, we were drawn to Newton for its excellent public schools, walkable village centers, and easy access to Boston by mass transit — all the ingredients for a strong and connected community.
But after arriving, we quickly realized that Newton’s biggest asset is its people. I recognized the same spirit of deep connection that I grew up with in Louisville, Kentucky — a place where neighbors know one another’s families across generations. But despite these close ties, Newton was also welcoming to newcomers like us, with events like kindergarten soccer, summer concerts at Hyde Center, PorchFest, and village festivals bringing people together in accessible, joyful ways.
Today, Phil, our two boys, and I are proud, active members of our community, connected through Zervas Elementary, Riverside Children’s Center, the Windsor Club, and all of the sports fields, courts, and playgrounds our boys frequent. We feel lucky to be able to call Newton home now and for many years to come.

Committed to Action and Progress
I believe in the strength of our democracy — and that it’s up to all of us to keep pushing it closer to its promise of liberty and justice for all. Change happens when we come together, roll up our sleeves, and pull the arc of history toward justice.

Activism gives me hope. Whether organizing friends to canvass in battleground elections, rallying for civil rights, or teaching my kids why every voice matters, I believe democracy is something we build together. In 2024, I hosted convention and debate watch parties for Newton friends and organized three group canvassing trips to Pennsylvania and Arizona--combining action with community and a shared belief in democracy.

Recently, I co-founded Newton Indivisible with fellow concerned neighbors — building community, finding comfort, and taking collective action when it’s needed most.

I’m running for City Council to bring that same spirit of action — grounded in integrity, empathy, and service — to strengthening Newton’s future.
